This type of pati\u00adent trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion thus wins the gold medal by a wide mar\u00adgin. Far behind in second place are pati\u00adent trans\u00adports with just under 5.4 mil\u00adlion jour\u00adneys. These are the actual jour\u00adneys to hos\u00adpi\u00adtals. In other words, around 566 every day in Ger\u00admany alone. This means at least 566 stressful, important phone calls every day, and tha\u00adt\u2019s just with pati\u00adents. Added to this is the effort invol\u00adved in the com\u00adplex and time-con\u00adsum\u00ading orga\u00adniza\u00adtion of boo\u00adking and coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtion with trans\u00adport ser\u00advices. It is not sur\u00adpri\u00adsing that this often results in hours of wai\u00adting time for patients.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=\u201d.vc_custom_1713276616166{margin-top: \u201115px !important;}\u201d]One fac\u00adtor that also plays into the com\u00adple\u00adxity of pati\u00adent trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion boo\u00adkings at hos\u00adpi\u00adtals is the change in the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal land\u00adscape over the past decade. Ger\u00admany has expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant reduc\u00adtion in the num\u00adber of hos\u00adpi\u00adtal beds on offer. The length of stay per tre\u00adat\u00adment case has also decreased. Bet\u00adween 1991 and 2019, the num\u00adber of beds fell from a good 665,000 to just 495,000. The average length of stay fell by almost half (from 14.0 to 7.2 days per pati\u00adent). Shorter lengths of stay mean more demand for trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion to and from the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal \u2014 quickly and fle\u00adxi\u00adbly. Ano\u00adther deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment that has not made pati\u00adents\u2019 jour\u00adneys any shorter is the ste\u00adadily incre\u00adasing pri\u00adva\u00adtiza\u00adtion and pro\u00adfit ori\u00aden\u00adta\u00adtion of hos\u00adpi\u00adtals. In 1992, only 14.8 per\u00adcent of all hos\u00adpi\u00adtals in Ger\u00admany were in the hands of pri\u00advate owners. Just 27 years later, this figure had risen to 37.8 per\u00adcent. Pro\u00adfit ori\u00aden\u00adta\u00adtion is firmly ancho\u00adred in our society. We all pro\u00adfit and lose from it to some ext\u00adent.
